Ozersay welcomes US Vice-President’s visit to Cyprus

Chief Turkish Cypriot negotiator in the Cyprus talks Kudret Ozersay has said that the forthcoming visit of US Vice-President Joe Biden to Cyprus would benefit the negotiation process, Turkish Cypriot daily ‘Kibris’ reports.

He said that Biden’s visit to Cyprus on 21st and 22nd May would “give motivation to the process to move forward”. The US Vice-President will meet both Presidents Eroglu and Anastasiades.

Ozersay, who welcomed the visit, emphasised the need for both sides to do all that is necessary in order to make progress on the issue of the Confidence Building Measures and the comprehensive solution.

He added that Biden’s visit reflected the importance given to the negotiation process by the international community and the weight which falls on those involved as regards the progress towards a solution.

“This visit puts Cyprus on top of the global agenda” said Ozersay and pointed to the fact that the Greek Cypriot side does not regard the acceleration of the process as a positive move.

Ozersay also expressed his unease about the fact that the proposals submitted by the Turkish Cypriot side to the Greek Cypriot side last Wednesday were leaked to the press and said that they had conveyed their concerns to the UN.
