Hüseyin Özgürgün, who was to run against Ersin Tatar in round two of the race for the UBP leadership elections, has bowed out.
No candidates managed to get sufficient votes to win the leadership outright. Tatar and Özgürgün were to face a second round on Saturday. Four candidates stood for leadership of the National Unity Party (UBP) – Hüseyin Özgürgün, Ersin Tatar, Faiz Sucuoğlu and Sunat Atun, however, none of the candidates gained the 3,502 vote required to become head of the UBP.
Out of 7,002 votes at the congress, the results were as follows: Ersin Tatar 2,592, Hüseyin Özgürgün 2,005, Faiz Sucuoğlu 1,340, Sunat Atun 1,016.
The former UBP leader said that he did not think it appropriate to continue running in the leadership election.
Özgürgün said that he wished success to Ersin Tatar, and pledged to support the party every step of the way.
