A woman crossing the road with two children in a pushchair was injured in an accident on Kyrenia Street, in Nicosia, at around midday on 31 October 2024. According to the police, Kemal Özipek (54) struck pedestrian Gönül Kılınç (57), who was attempting to cross the street while he was driving under the influence of alcohol, Kibris Postasi reported.
The police report states that Özipek, found to have a blood alcohol level of 58 mg/100 ml, was driving south in his vehicle, when, due to inattention, he collided with Kılınç at the Müftü Ziyai Street intersection. Kılınç was crossing the road with two children in a pushchair at the time.
Kılınç sustained injuries in the accident and was taken to Dr Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital in Nicosia, where she received treatment in the orthopaedic department for a fracture to her right tibia.
Legal action has been initiated against the driver, and the investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
