Pipeline Project dislocates Turkish villages

A number of villages which will be affected by the water catchment areas behind the Alakopru Dam will be relocated. The dam in south Turkey is being constructed to supply water by pipe to the TRNC.

The Ministry of the Environment in Turkey yesterday announced that work had begun on constructing new villages to rehouse the residents of Akine, Ormancik, Sariagac and Caltibuku.

New villages will be constructed after careful consultation with the residents and are planned to be model replacements. There will be 326 dwellings, 3 mosques, 16 schools as well as other social buildings.

The project will be completed next year.
