Plans to Install Cable Car to St. Hilarion

The TRNC General Assembly has granted a budget of 145,333,100 TL for the Ministry of Tourism and Environment. Tourism Minister Fikri Ataoğlu has said that the work to set up a cable car between Kyrenia and St. Hilarion will be completed and put out for tender.

During the general assembly, UBP parliament official Canaltay said that there were some inconsistencies between the budget and the government programme.

He pointed out that there has been a reduction in the ministry’s budget and that tourism sector revenues are important. Promotion and marketing is important for increasing income. Promotion cannot be limited to participating in tourism fairs alone.

Canaltay noted that other countries have charter flights and the decrease in charter flights to the TRNC had led to a fall in tourist numbers from the UK and other countries.

The reconstruction of the Master Plan for Tourism was on the agenda, he said and noted that the previous plan had not been implemented.

The provision of tourist guides, funding, local workforce in the hotels, alternative and sustainable tourism projects, had experienced problems, he stated.
