Prime Minister Tufan Erhurman paid a visit to the Aplic-Lefke border checkpoint on Wednesday.
Work on both Aplic and Derinya border crossing points have been completed, he said.
Referring to the recent statements made by President Mustafa Akinci who has said: “We will be ready for the opening of these two crossing points right after the Greek Cypriot side announces that it is ready”, Erhurman said that there are no technical problems regarding the opening of the border checkpoints. He pointed out that they are now waiting for the two leaders’ approval at political level.
Pointing out to the importance of the opening of the Aplic-Lefke crossing point, as it will contribute to the economy, to the ties of the two communities and will further attract tourists, Erhurman underlined that both communities will benefit from opening the border at that point.
Erhurman added further that they expect the Aplic-Lefke crossing and Derinya crossing to open simultaneously.
