Potato exports to the South resume

The export of potatoes to South Cyprus has re-commenced under the Green Line Regulations.

300 tonnes of potatoes were sent to South Cyprus on Thursday and exports will also continue after the Bayram holiday.

Potato exports were halted because of attacks by a group of Greek Cypriot fanatics on potato producers last week. Reactions have been strong on both sides of the island after the potato export ban.

Kıbrıs Gazetesi notes that, according to some confidential sources, the two community leaders recently discussed this issue during a session of the Cyprus negotiations. According to the same report, Greek Cypriot community leader Anastasiades said that there is no problem regarding potato exports to South Cyprus under the Green Line Regulation.
