Aircraft control and other systems at Ercan were offline for nearly 20 minutes in the early hours of Thursday morning. The Deputy Head of the Civil Aviation Authority explained that there had been a failure in the continuous power supply system of the control tower. A team took 20 minutes to correct the problem.
Meanwhile, a Turkish airlines flight from Istanbul to Ercan, which had been preparing to land, had to circle round Ercan waiting for the power supply to the control tower to resume. Eventually, the plane was diverted to Adana because it had nearly run out of fuel.
No other flights were disrupted.
