President Mustafa Akıncı had a telephone conversation with US Vice President Mike Pence last night, ahead of the Cyprus Conference set to take place at Crans-Montana, Switzerland on June 28.
A statement issued by the President’s office read that President Akıncı said the intensive efforts in the past two years have reached the final stage.
He added that the Turkish Cypriot side was determined to continue working at the conference to achieve a federal solution based on political equality.
The President also highlighted the importance of discussing all six chapters interdependently and for all parties to remain committed to the agreement reached in New York on June 4.
Following the telephone conversation, the White House issued a statement saying that the US Vice President had emphasised his country’s support for the resumption of UN-led talks in Switzerland and expressed the hope that the two leader will agree to a settlement that would reunify Cyprus as a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation to the benefit of all Cypriots.
