President Derviş Eroğlu yesterday opened Lapta’s 7th North Cyprus Tourism Festival organised by Lapta Municipality in order to promote tourism in Lapta with its beautiful natural surroundings, historical and socio-cultural heritage.
During the festival, which lasts for four days, there will be a series of fun activities and concerts. Along with local dance and music groups, there will also be performances by groups from Turkey, Chile, Serbia and Russia.
Speaking during the opening ceremony Turkish Cypriot President Eroğlu stressed the importance of such festivals and reiterated his gratitude to Turkey.
“We are celebrating our festivals and national days freely. This is a gift from the Mujaheed Turkish Cypriots’ and mainland Turkey’s joint struggle”, said Eroğlu adding that Turkish Cypriots who could not travel safely in the old days can now freely go wherever they want like from Lapta to Nicosia.
According to the president, Turkish Cypriots have full self-confidence under their own state’s roof.
