President Ersin Tatar attended the “TRNC Horizon 2033 Informatics Island Vision Workshop,” organised by the Turkish Informatics Association and the Information Technologies and Communications Authority, under the auspices of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, Kibris Postasi reported.
In his speech, President Tatar expressed confidence that the TRNC will achieve its goals and undergo a digital transformation through its efforts in the IT sector. He highlighted that ongoing studies, supported by Turkey and sector stakeholders, have led to the passage of relevant laws and the development of necessary regulations. Tatar also voiced his belief that young people educated abroad in this field will return to contribute to the country’s IT development.
Tatar extended his gratitude to Turkcell, Telsim, and other investors for their trust in the TRNC. He noted that despite embargoes, investments have been made and developed, ensuring uninterrupted global connectivity. He emphasised that tourists, students, investors, and citizens are supported in staying connected with the world through advanced technology. He further stressed that the state’s infrastructure will be modernised with the implementation of e-government and digital transformation initiatives.
Highlighting the importance of continuous investment, Tatar recounted how he recently travelled from Australia, using the artificial intelligence infrastructure of a Turkish Cypriot family company to provide translation services for conferences. This, he said, demonstrates the country’s growing attractiveness, encouraging Cypriots abroad to return from Turkey, England, and other countries, as the TRNC moves toward becoming an IT hub.
“We trust the sector, and we will achieve this as TRNC”, Tatar stated, drawing a parallel to Malta’s development. He noted that, with Turkey’s experience and success, the TRNC will flourish in the IT field.
Tatar underscored the importance of instilling confidence in investors and facilitating investments. “Despite the embargoes, the TRNC is developing, its technological infrastructure is improving, and it is integrating with the world in every field”, he said. He congratulated everyone supporting the communication infrastructure and expressed hope that the targets would be achieved promptly.
