Price of water calculated to cover Turkey’s costs of supply

The price of water from Turkey – 2.30TL per tonne has been calculated to ensure that all investments made by Turkey, including future investments, are repaid, Mevlut Cavusoglu, Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources, has said.

Cavusoglu was critical of those who allege that the municipalities will go bankrupt when they pay Turkey’s asking price for the water and wondered why they think that the price of 2.30 TL for water coming from another country is so high, when they are selling locally sourced water at 4TL per tonne.

Meanwhile, Turkish Cypriot daily Yeni Bakis, on the same issue, reports that Bektas Goze, chairman of the union of chambers of Turkish Cypriot architects and engineers, has said that the politicians try to persuade the people that the water is given to the Turkish Cypriots from Turkey as a donation, but this is not true. He noted that in the recently signed economic protocol, it states that the expenses at all stages of transferring the water, will be paid by the Turkish Cypriots “to the last penny”.
