Responding to Prime Minister Ünal Üstel’s claim that there was sabotage against the electricity authority, Kib-Tek, Erhürman said, “Either prove the sabotage or resign and step down! You should pay the price for this“, he stressed.
Speaking on the “Manşet+” programme on BRT, Erhürman ramped up the rhetoric criticising the government, saying, “You’re calling the people who work late into the night ‘dishonourable.’ We’ve all seen the conditions these workers deal with. As the CTP, we oppose any sabotage that harms our country’s assets, no matter who’s responsible. But if there’s no sabotage and you’re just blaming the power outages on it, then you should take responsibility and resign”. He highlighted the struggles people, including the elderly, babies, and children, are facing in the heat and said the government is indifferent, just as with other issues.
He further stated, “Even your own chairman has apologised, yet you remain indifferent. This is the result of poor management and neglect. Everyone knows the government is focused on other matters right now“. Erhürman pointed out that Kib-Tek staff have been warning about delayed fuel deliveries and damage to the machines for days, but the government has ignored these complaints.
He recalled that even the Chairman of the Board admitted they owe the public an apology and concluded, “If you can’t prove the sabotage claims, then you should resign. You can’t treat people this badly by calling them ‘dishonourable’”.
Meanwhile, El-Sen union has said that poor quality fuel and a lack of spare parts is to blame for the smoke emitting from the power station chimney stack and for machines breaking down. They have accused the government of “sabotage”, saying that Kib-Tek is being run down deliberately in order to completely privatise the state institution.
