Quarrying continues unabated

North Cyprus has one of the biggest environmental problems, despite laws which are intended to control quarrying activities.

A photograph was published on social media on Friday showing the damage caused to the environment by the local quarry in Degirmenlik.

Reaction to the photograph snowballed on social media, reflecting the outcry against unlimited quarrying in the North over the past few years.

Ironic comments were made about the fact that the mountain had been removed in order to gain a sea view from the Mesarya plain.
