The Republican Turkish Party (CTP) is planning a series of discussions and activities titled “Our Presence Shapes History” to mark the 20th anniversary of the Annan Plan referendum, Yeniduzen reports.

CTP General Secretary Asım Akansoy, emphasised the importance of reflecting on the past while discussing the future of Cyprus in light of the significant events of those days.

He stated that the aim is to gather key figures, politicians, intellectuals, and stakeholders involved in the Annan Plan process to delve into the direction and implications of the referendum. Additionally, Akansoy highlighted the significance of recognising the determination demonstrated by the Turkish Cypriot community during the referendum, despite the ultimate rejection of the Annan Plan.

He acknowledged the resilience and unity shown by the community, which, although not resulting in immediate peace, paved the way for renewed interactions and opportunities, including educational exchanges and advancements in international recognition.

Akansoy also emphasised the enduring commitment of the Republican Turkish Party to pursuing a federal solution and maintaining faith in peaceful resolutions.

The events organised for the 20th anniversary of the Annan Plan Referendum aim to foster dialogue, critical examination, and forward-thinking discussions on the future of Cyprus, emphasising the collective ownership of the country’s destiny and the determination to shape its history.
