Refugees at British Base face deportation

Syrian refugees at the British Base in Cyprus could be deported if they do not apply for asylum.

The British government has said that they would be sent back to Beirut if they did not apply, a report in ‘The Times’ says.

The migrants had been making their way from Lebanon to Greece when their boat began to sink off Akrotiri Base.

They have now been moved to Dhekelia, where there have been scenes of disturbances amongst the refugees. Film footage showed evidence of self-harming, tents being set on fire and threats of suicide by some of the inmates of the camp.
