Refusing expats in TRNC vehicles entry to south a misunderstanding

A British High Commission in Cyprus official has confirmed that “non-Cypriots are free to drive TRNC registered vehicles” into south Cyprus.

The issue came to light after a misunderstanding led to expat motorists being turned away by officials at the Metehan crossing in Nicosia.

British High Commission Vice-Consul Christina Smith told Cyprus Today that the south Cyprus authorities had confirmed to her that there had been no change to procedures. “We were informed that there was a misunderstanding at the crossing point about the application of UN regulations but this has now been resolved and people are free to cross”, Smith said.
