President Dervis Eroglu has said that as the electricity project from Turkey is currently delayed, it was necessary to look for alternative forms of energy such as solar and wind power.
Eroglu was speaking at a meeting with the board of North Cyprus Turkcell GSM operator Atilla Koc and his delegation.
At the meeting today, KKTCell chairman Koc indicated that North Cyprus now had the infrastructure to use 4G ahead of Turkey; however licensing agreements had to be in place first.
Koc commented that the biggest expense in Cyprus was electricity and touched on renewable energy.
President Eroglu, for his part, pointed out complaints made regarding high GSM operator’s prices and said this was due to high costs for the TRNC.
As for renewable energy, Eroglu underlined the need to use renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power in various areas.
He added that he would help to secure the necessary contacts for the GSM operator to support and ease their business on the island. As with all countries, the TRNC is also in need of investment, he added.
