Riot control vehicle not wanted: PM Yorgancioglu

Following questions regarding the delivery of a riot control vehicle (TOMA) to the TRNC, Prime Minister Ozkan Yorgancioglu said that he was against the importing of the riot control vehicle which had been ordered by the previous UBP government.

He said that if required, he would personally stand at customs and bar the entry of the vehicle.

Mr Yorgancioglu was speaking in parliament against the riot control vehicle. He said that his new government would honour its promises to the voters and would nullify the agreement of the previous government to purchase a riot control vehicle for the police.

In fact he promised that work was being carried out to make the police more democratic and accountable to the civil authorities in general.

The police currently report to a military commander.
