Updated 21:00: DISY leader, Nicos Anastasiades, won today’s vote, however he did not gain the required majority secure the position of President of the Republic of Cyprus.
Anastasiades won 45.5% of the vote and will contest the presidency in a run-off election next Sunday with AKEL backed, Stavros Malas, who got 24.93 % of the vote.
One of the leading contenders for the South Cyprus Presidency, Nicos Anastasiades is well ahead in the exit polls of today’s election.
The leader of DISY may actually have more than 50% share of the vote, which would mean he would avoid a run-off on February 24th.
His nearest rival appears to be Stavros Malas of AKEL with 27%.
