Rogue Tree Fellers Steal 80 Trees

Illegal tree felling in private field - Adinkoy

The police have urged potential witnesses to come forward following the discovery that an orchard of citrus and cypress trees were cut down by unknown persons in a field in Aydınköy, Güzelyurt, Yeniduzen reports.

This event took place without the owner’s consent. A total of 50 citrus trees and around 30 cypress trees which were almost one hundred years old were cut down and removed

The trees stood along the boundary of the field.

The owners who were very upset by this act said that the tree felling must have occurred over several days.

The owners learned that a neighbour, who witnessed the event, asked the tree cutters what they were doing and was told, “We bought this field, we will cut down all the trees“. Believing this, the neighbour did not inform the owners. The owners emphasised that this was not a simple case of cutting dried trees but rather an organised operation by those in the tree trading business, conducted over several days and nights. They said, “The cut cypress trees were the village’s lifeline, its green cover. It is also worrying that the villagers remained silent and avoided providing information. Our field is right next to the houses and approximately 100 metres from the coffee shop. The cut trees were transported past the coffee shop; there is no other route“.

The owners reported this irresponsible incident to the police and expressed hope that those responsible for the tree felling would be identified. They urged witnesses to come forward and provide information to the police.
