Russian tourist arrested in Famagusta

A Russian tourist from Ayia Napa will appear before a Turkish military court on Thursday. Roman Krasnikov (32) was arrested after he attempted to photograph the military zone of Varosha/Maras from the Palm Beach hotel in Famagusta.

The arresting officer said he had ignored signs prohibiting the taking of photographs of a military zone.

Krasnikov, who faces a maximum of five years imprisonment for the offence, said that he was unaware that taking photographs of the fenced-off area was illegal.

He has been freed on bail and has been prohibited from leaving the north.
