Children from various countries around the world gathered in Çatalköy for the second annual Children’s Festival, organised by the Çatalköy Esentepe Municipality in collaboration with FOGEM, Yeniduzen reports.
According to information provided by the municipality, the event had a lively, carnival-like atmosphere, filled with colourful moments. A total of 95 children from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Turkey, and the host country, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), participated in the festival.
The festival, held in honour of World Children’s Day, was attended by local children as well. It provided an opportunity for them to showcase their own cultures and learn about others through a cortege march and dance performances.
The event commenced with a cortege march, where children dressed in vibrant costumes paraded with flags and banners. Following the march, children from each country performed their traditional dances.
The festival featured both fun and educational activities. Children engaged in various games and workshops, including creative drama, face painting, and handicrafts, allowing them to enjoy themselves while gaining new skills. These activities also gave children the chance to make friends from different cultures.
In his speech at the event, Çatalköy Esentepe Mayor Ceyhun Kırok expressed his gratitude to everyone involved in organising the festival. He emphasised that such events strengthen the sense of unity and solidarity among children. Kırok stated, “Children are our future. Their happiness is our happiness. With activities like these, we offer our children the opportunity to learn about different cultures”. He added that the event is more than just entertainment; it helps children develop cultural awareness and tolerance.
