Second Turkish Drillship Arrives in Antalya

Turkey’s second drillship, the ‘Yavuz’, has arrived offshore Antalya in the Eastern Mediterranean.

The Yavuz, which was constructed in 2011, was purchased by the Turkish Petroleum Corporation as part of the ‘National Energy and Mining Policy’ in order to enhance Turkey’s marine research and offshore drilling capabilities.

The vessel has anchored off the coast of Antalya before setting out to Cyprus for offshore drilling activities near the Karpaz.

In addition to its drilling capabilities, the Yavuz houses a sports centre, a cinema theatre and a recreation centre as well as a mini- hospital with a doctor on standby.

The Yavuz generates its electricity from diesel fuel generators with a capacity of 42 megawatts and has 7.5 million litres of fuel capacity.
