Serdal Gündüz, minor shareholder in Cyprus Health and Social Sciences University and his assistant Berke Özbek, who were arrested following an investigation by the Financial Crimes Department, appeared for the first time at the Nicosia High Criminal Court. The case, overseen by President Füsun Cemaller, Senior Judge Vedia B. Barkın, and Judge Tutku Candaş, has been postponed until September 10, 2024, Yeniduzen reports.

Serdal Gündüz’s lawyer, Doğa Zeki, mentioned that there are 12 cases in total, but only two were addressed during the guarantee period, and requested that the court bring forward the remaining 10 cases. Meanwhile, Berke Özbek’s lawyer, Hasan Yücelen, clarified that Özbek is Gündüz’s assistant at the university and that the issue concerns money being deposited into Özbek’s personal account, as students were instructed to make payments there.

The defendants face 98 charges, including fraud, falsifying documents, and money laundering. During the initial hearing at the Güzelyurt District Court, where eight witnesses testified, these charges were formally presented. The case has been adjourned until September 10, 2024.
