Sewage plant below Bellapais ruled illegal

The Supreme Administrative Court has ruled for the suspension of the construction works of a sewage plant near the Bellapais monastery, citing that Kyrenia municipality did not have the necessary permissions.

The project for the construction of a sewage plant near Bellapais monastery has been undertaken by the Turkish embassy and was financed by the Cukurova Development Agency and the Ministry of Economy, Tourism, Culture and Sports.

Boysan Boyran who is the plaintiff lawyer of the case, said that the Supreme Court has ruled that all the works related to the plant were unauthorised. He also called on the Antiquities Department to reconsider its decision regarding giving permissions to restaurants and places of entertainment near the monastery.
