Elections were held yesterday for the post of president of the Assembly. That is a post roughly similar to the Speaker of the House of Commons in the England.
Mrs Siber, the CTP nominee won by a resounding majority of 46 votes in favour to one against.
Afterwards, she thanked the MPs for her selection and said that she felt proud to be given such a responsibility and that she would represent the people of the TRNC in a non-partisan way.
Mrs Siber said that while she was in charge of parliament, nobody would be able to accuse it of being lazy or inefficient.
