Small aircraft crashes into sea after Paphos take-off

A small airplane has crashed into the sea after taking off from Paphos. Wreckage of the plane was seen last night, ‘Famagusta Gazette’ reports.

The twin-engine Diamond DA42 was en route to Beirut with two people on board, when it disappeared from the radar 45 nm south of Larnaca shortly after 7pm last night.

Lebanese Minister of the Interior, Nuhaq El Mashnouq told a local online newspaper that the area of the wreckage was 100km off the Lebanese coast.

No traces of the Cypriot pilot and Lebanese co-pilot have been found so far.

A search is on by Cypriot, Israeli and Lebanese authorities to try and find the pilot and co-pilot who have not been identified.

The Greek tanker “Spirit of Piraeus”, which was sailing near the last known position of the aircraft is also taking part in the search effort.
