Greek Cypriot Energy Minister Yiorgos Lakkotrypis has said that without a solution to the Cyprus problem, there can be no possibility of exporting natural gas via pipe line through Turkey, Greek Cypriot daily ‘Politis’ reports.
Apparently Israel has announced that it will not allow the pipelines carrying gas to Turkey to pass via Cyprus.
The message was given by Lakkotrypis during the 2015 budget meeting at the Greek Cypriot Parliament Finance Committee. The newspaper also wrote that Greek Cypriot Parliament Finance Committee leader Nicolas Papadopulos refused to give approval for ‘Greek Cypriot’ natural gas to be brought to Turkey via pipelines, as well as not approving that Israeli natural gas reaches Turkey via Cyprus.
According to the newspaper, Papadopulos has stated that: “Even if the Cyprus Problem is solved, the Greek Cypriot government should not accept natural gas exportation through Turkey. We cannot allow Turkey to stop the exportation of the gas whenever they want and cause damage to Cyprus”.
