Parliamentary Speaker Sibel Siber has hit out Greek Cypriot leader Nicos Anastasiades’ stance on the Cyprus Problem.
She said that especially during the latest phase experienced in the Cyprus Problem, the Greek Cypriot leader had not accepted the existence of the two peoples on the island or a solution model based on equality which was the reason behind the failure of the talks.
“The Greek Cypriot leader continues to disrespect and ignore the rights and the will of the Turkish Cypriot people which led to the failure of the talks. He continues to voice his stance at every platform which is very disappointing”, said Siber.
Drawing attention to the fact that the Greek Cypriot administration had taken part in a meeting with Southern EU Countries on 10 January in Rome, she said that on the recommendation put forward by the Greek Cypriot leader, they had supported a joint resolution calling for a solution that removed all guarantees on the island.
The declaration stated that the countries support a resolution of the Cyprus problem in line with the EU acquis that reunifies Cyprus and its people, and which safeguards Cyprus’ sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, without guarantees.
