The Greek Cypriot authorities deported six French passport holders back to Switzerland on Tuesday.
The six men, five of whom are Turkish and one Algerian, aged between 25 and 32 had been detained on Saturday after arriving on a low budge flight from Basel in Switzerland. Airport immigration officials became suspicious when they claimed that they were spending four days as tourists in Cyprus.
Police had been informed by Interpol that two of the Turks and the Algerian had close ties to Islamic networks.
The remaining three men were sent back because they had not provided sufficient explanations as to why they had come to the island.
