South to stop sales of Greek Cypriot owned property in TRNC

The South Cyprus government has announced its intention to introduce a series of measures which will prevent Greek Cypriot owned properties being sold in the TRNC.

Speaking at a memorial event organised by the community of Kizilay, a suburb on the northern edge of Nicosia, Interior Minister Socrates Chasikos called on all Greek Cypriots not to sell their properties in the TRNC via the Immovable Property Commission (IPC).

He continued that selling those particular Greek Cypriot properties would weaken the South’s bargaining hand in the peace negotiations in relation to the property issue.

He reiterated his government’s wish to agree on a mutually acceptable joint statement before entering into negotiations, as it did not wish talks to fail as they had in the past.
