A meeting was held this afternoon by the South Cyprus government junior coalition party DIKO, headed by recently elected Nicolas Papadopoulos (above).
DIKO are discussing the possibility of leaving the South Cyprus DISY/DIKO coalition government in protest at the wording of the recently signed joint statement which has seen the re-launch of the Cyprus negotiations.
The hardline DIKO leader, Papadopoulos had described the joint document proposed by President Anastasiades as a “bad” deal ten days ago, when he resolved to call a meeting of party members to discuss what action DIKO should take.
Papadopoulos’ statement reinforced mounting speculation that the junior coalition partners are poised to withdraw from the government.
