Staff shortages prompt 3 day strike at Nicosia hospital

Turkish Cypriot Civil Servants Union (Kamu-Sen) have begun a 3-day strike because the government has failed to hire medical staff needed in the radiology department at Dr Burhan Nalbantoğlu Public hospital in Nicosia, ‘Kibris Postasi’ reports.

The union says that the strike would become indefinite if their request to hire 8 radiographers for the hospital is not met.

The strike at the radiology department will run from 8.00 – 13.00. Only emergency cases will be dealt with in that time.

A statement was read out in front of the hospital saying that the radiography department has no staff and the government has not given permission to hire more staff to fill positions which are currently vacant.
