Stolen 300kg Church Bell Found in Sheep Pen

A church bell stolen from the Ayios Panteleimonas Church bell tower in Çamlıbel has been found in a sheep pen in Gayretköy village.

The bell weighing 300kg which had been donated to the 17th century monastery during Ottoman rule by Cypriots living in Venice, was stolen from the monastery last November.

Three men have been arrested and appeared in court in Kyrenia yesterday. They admitted that they intended to sell the bell in the South. However, they also claimed that they had discovered the bell in a stream in Hisarköy four months ago.
