Strike will cause delays at Paphos Airport today

Passengers using Paphos Airport have been told to expect delays on Wednesday after ground staff and taxi drivers have decided to go on strike.

Hermes Airport Ltd has announced that the strike by ground staff – which is set to take place between 2pm and 4pm – will effect a total of 23 flights (11 arrivals and 12 departures).

Meanwhile, protesting ground staff workers have been joined by taxi drivers – operating at the airport – who staged their own strike at 6am on Wednesday.

Baggage handlers for Swissport and LGS stopped work leading to delays and problems at baggage reclaim.

The unions have said that a collective agreement still pending from May is overdue and not signed by the employers which has led to the non-payment over increments.

Speaking to state radio, SEK union official Pavlos Demosthenous said the workers had “no choice but to go on strike” after talks with the two companies had failed to find a solution.
