The number of the students who were admitted to TRNC universities has fallen by 10% compared to last year’s figures. That is equivalent to one thousand fewer students.
According to ‘Havadis’, last year, 11,925 students entered TRNC universities and this year, the number fell to 10,795 students.
The decline in the number of Turkish students opting to study at TRNC universities will have a negative effect on the economy, the newspaper says. Only 10,795 places were filled out of the 20,331 that were available.
The Eastern Mediterranean University (DAU) has seen the biggest loss in student numbers. In 2016, there were 2,205 student registrations, this year, the number fell to 1,622.
