Sefer Buğra Altundağ (21) arrested for the murder of 16-year-old Zehie Helin Reessur, a student at Famagusta Vocational High School, appeared in court again, Kibris Postasi reports.

In court, police testified that on January 25, 2023, the night of the murder, Zehie was talking to her boyfriend on the phone when she said that the suspect, Altundağ, had hit her. Her boyfriend later went to the police and reported it when he couldn’t reach her again. When the police checked Zehie’s home after the complaint, no one was there.

Police also revealed that they found a black car, abandoned with its engine running near the Derinya border checkpoint in Famagusta at around 7.14 am. Inside the car, there were bloodstains on the seats, and it looked like someone had tried to burn some clothes to destroy evidence.

After learning that a girl’s body had been found in Iskele, police connected it to this case and informed Assistant Inspector Erdim Kara. They reviewed security footage from around the apartment building and a nearby hotel construction site where the murder occurred. The footage showed the suspect entering the area at 1.59 am and leaving at 2.12 am.

Later that day, the suspect was found in Southern Cyprus and handed over to the police by United Nations officials at 7.10 pm.

The court postponed the hearing and inspected the vehicle at the Iskele Police Department. The trial will resume on August 15.
