A Syrian man was arrested by police at Kyrenia harbour at the weekend, while he was trying to leave the country. He was arrested for entering the country illegally.
Police discovered that he was one of ten Syrian refugees who had landed illegally at a beach in Alsancak. The other nine are now wanted by the police.
The man told police that they arrived by fishing boat from Mersin, Turkey and had expected to land in Greece. Each one of them had paid 2,000 euros for the trip, the man said.
He has been held in custody for three days.
