The tender invitation for works to be carried out to open Derynia and Aplic border crossings has been met with little interest from contractors.
President Anastasiades and President Akinci had agreed to the opening of the two crossing points, within the framework of the Confidence Building Measures (CBM), on 28th May 2015.
Citing information obtained by diplomatic sources, Kibris Postasi writes that the tenders ended on 15th July and when the box was opened, no proposal was found for the crossing point in Aplic area. There was only one proposal for Derynia, but the cost is considered to be very high and appears not to be serious.
After the lack of interest, the UNDP-PFF decided to give a fifteen day extension for submitting proposals. However, this decision has not been announced officially.
