Thugs Seriously Assault And Kidnap Man

Cyprus News - Police

A man was seriously assaulted*, robbed and kidnapped, by individuals who claimed he owed money, Kibris Postasi reported.

According to the police press release, the incident happened on Tuesday, August 13 at a car sales and repair shop in Hamitköy.

At the shop, S.K. (male, 47), C.D. (male, 43), F.Ş. (male, 35), and some unidentified individuals lured A.Ö. (male, 37) to the location because he hadn’t paid his debt to someone. They trapped him inside a car painting oven and held him against his will.

A.Ö. was severely beaten multiple times, then forced into a vehicle and driven to the Dörtyol area under threats of violence, where he was left.

After the police were informed yesterday, they arrested C.D. as part of their investigation, while the other suspects involved are still being sought.

*There has been a notable rise in violent crime in North Cyprus recently. Over the last few years, the area has increasingly become a haven for criminals, including international fugitives and organised crime groups. This trend has been made worse by a lack of legal oversight and international recognition, allowing criminals to operate with relative impunity. The crime rate, particularly for violent and serious offences, has been rising, with the crime index increasing for two consecutive years. [Ed.]
