Toros military excercise cancelled again this year

Turkish Cypriot negotiator Osman Ertug has stated that while waiting for the Greek Cypriot side to return to the negotiating table, the Turkish Cypriot side continues to take constructive steps, ‘Kibris Gazetesi’ reports.  Within this framework, he said that the Toros military exercise will be cancelled this year as well.

Ertug added that they had made the necessary contacts and arrangements with the motherland and guarantor country Turkey regarding this issue.

Toros is a joint military exercise of the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) and the TRNC Security Forces Command, held every year in response to the Nikiforos military exercises of Greece and Greek Cyprus.

Both sides have been cancelling military exercises in mutual agreement since 2008, soon after a new round of negotiations to unify the island began.
