Minister of Public Works and Transportation Tolga Atakan paid a visit to the Lefke region to oversee the works at Aplıç and Gemikonağı.
During his visit to one of the next two crossings planned to be opened, also as the acting Deputy PM and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Atakan said “We will be ready by the time the Greek Cypriot side informs us that they are ready”, referring to the opening of the Derinya and Aplıç border crossings.
Following his visit to Aplıç, Minister Atakan went Gemikonağı to see the road works undertaken to make the bend opposite to Cengiz Topel Monument more secure in terms of road safety.
The works conducted on the 400m section of the road include widening the road to 8m, from the current width of 6m, laying 1000 tons of asphalt and 1200m of road paint that can withstand the climate conditions of the island.
