Three men were arrested while searching for gold, thought to have been hidden in the Besparmak mountain range.
The men had been digging near Buffavento Castle and had hidden their tools in a cave they had made. They had attempted to camouflage the opening with branches but had been discovered by forestry workers who reported them to the authorities.
The three treasure hunters said that they had been digging for ten days following a tip from someone in the South that 20 kilos of gold had been buried in the mountains in 1974.
