TRNC to buy electricity from South for water pipeline

KIB-TEK and the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) have agreed on an energy deal. The need for extra electricity that will be required by the North Cyprus Water Supply Project pumping system and other systems will be sold by EAC to KIB-TEK, Greek Cypriot daily ‘Phileleftheros’ reports.

The report says that KIB-TEK and EAC are holding unofficial meetings in order to finalise the deal.

In addition it says that the amount of energy required to pump water from the underwater pipeline where it meets the land is 50 MW.

The newspaper also writes that the two authorities had met twice unofficially at Ledra Palace and certain technical and financial issues were still to be dealt with.

Greek Cypriot President Anastasiades is also aware of the talks, the paper writes and adds that the meetings have the consent of the government.
