The TRNC celebrates the 40th anniversary of 20th July when Turkey landed its troops on the island in a peace keeping mission to safeguard the Turkish Cypriots from annihilation, following a military coup d’état launched by the Cypriot National Guard supported by the Greek military junta on 15th July 1974.
To commemorate that fateful day, there will be celebrations and parades all around North Cyprus. Turkish President Gül arrived yesterday to take part and gave a speech following his meeting with TRNC President Eroğlu.
As part of the celebrations, we will once again be treated to another spectacular air display by the Turkish Stars Aerobatic Team at around 6 pm today over Kyrenia harbour.
