New moves are in the pipeline to allow the inspection of Turkish Cypriot Hellim production standards in the TRNC.
Greek Cypriot newspaper Philelftheros reports that following the application by South Cyprus to register Hellim as a PDO product, the UK, Finland, Sweden and the EU Turkish Cypriot Action Group have applied to the EU Commission’s Agricultural Department for a separate control mechanism in the TRNC before agreeing to the registration of the cheese by the Greek Cypriots.
According to the newspaper, South Cyprus is now fighting this initiative.
