TRNC may have to get international recognition: says Straw

Jack Straw has said that continuous blocking of Turkey’s accession to the EU would bring its own consequences.

The former British Foreign Secretary went on to say that the outcome of Greek Cyprus’ anti-Turkish stance might mean that in his view, the international community would have to seriously consider recognising the TRNC.

Re-iterating the words of the House of Lords EU committee report that allowing Cyprus to have EU access before any settlement had been agreed was a “a huge mistake“, Straw said that it was time to get tough with the Greek Cypriots, adding that it was disgraceful that North Cyprus remained in political and economic exile even though the TRNC had voted in favour of the Annan Plan in 2004.
