TRNC Police Arrest UK Murder Suspect

North Cyprus News - George Barker - murder victimA UK murder suspect has been arrested by North Cyprus police. The man who is the chief suspect of the murder of George Barker (photo left) at a gym in the south-east London borough of Bexley in 2016, was arrested on Monday.

Charles Riddington, 35 had stabbed Barker, 24, from South Darenth in Sevenoaks, Kent in a fight at the Double K Gym on the morning of 14 November, 2016. Barker’s partner had given birth to their baby daughter only five days before his death and they were about to register her name in the week he was killed.

The Metropolitan Police were looking for Riddington, as the main suspect and who is known to have used 14 different aliases.

Riddington fled to Dusseldorf from Manchester airport after the homicide investigation team had said that a reward of £10,000 was offered for any information that might lead to his arrest. He was arrested in Yeni Iskele, North Cyprus on 20 August after Interpol issued a request.

Riddington had been living in North Cyprus for the past two years using a fake Namibian passport under the name of ‘Ricky de Bruin’, which he obtained in Germany.

The suspect changed his appearance with longer, blonde hair, and entered North Cyprus several times with different counterfeit passports until Interpol warned local authorities about his latest movements.
