TRNC to amend laws on refugees

The TRNC’s Foreign Ministry has announced that it is making the maximum effort in order to provide the necessary arrangements, within their limits, to the refugees who apply to the TRNC to be a staging post for onward migration to Europe.

The announcement reports that the ministry is in close cooperation with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the government has on its agenda, amendments to its laws regarding refugees. The government will be able to implement a more active policy when the laws come into force.

It is also reported that the Foreign Ministry is following very closely ongoing events in Syria and in its neighbouring countries, as well as the refugee problem which has emerged because of the war.

Any refugees that have reached North Cyprus waters have been immediately deported to Turkey which is struggling to cope with over two million refugees at present.
